And when the other chick is cutting off her hair, why was she crying? What's so wrong about baldness haha

  1. You do realise that this is a FILM don't you? It uses significant amounts of 'dramatic license'. She was going bald anyway - the stuff they used to make their faces white had lead in which poisoned their skin and hair.

  2. I also don't think there is a historian who believes she died an actual virgin. It just wasn't possible for her to acknowledge lovers.

Elizabeth was only the second queen regnant of England. She lived most of her life in constant danger. She probably learned lessons about the power of s*x before the age of 15 when the husband of the only strong mother figure in her life (Catherine Parr) tried to seduce her. He was hoping to marry her someday and take her power.

I think in our society we would think of a powerful woman who lived to age 69 and never had s*x as an unusual person. In the 15th cenury it was part of her mythology that kept her power.

Plenty of Kings openly acknowledged their mistresses and their illegitimate offspring. QE had on openly acknowledged half brother (Henry Fitzroy) from a mistress and probably a lot of un-acknowledged half siblings.

If this seems strange, think about Condoleezza Rice, an attractive 53 year old woman who has never been marrried, and one of the most powerful woman in our society. Our society is not reserved about s*x, but could she flaunt her lovers? You never even read about who she dates.

  3. First, you need to recognize that all movies are not factual and take great liberties with history. We don't know if Elizabeth I had affairs or not. She is called the Virgin Queen because she never married, preferring to stay a powerful and solo queen regnant.

  4. There is no evidence whatsoever that she actually had s*x with anyone.    The movie you saw had some historical fact, but much was conjecture.

It is highly likely that Elizabeth died a virgin.    What with the way that her own father treated women, especially her own mother, she had every reason to distrust men, and more than likely she had a deep fear of ever allowing any man to have any power over her.     Even though she was Queen, marrying a man and having a king could mean that she could be deposed and executed.

That's probably another reason she wouldn't name a successor.

It is thought that she actually lost her hair due to illness, not someone cutting it off.

  5. There is no evidence that Queen Elizabeth ever had s*x with anybody.  The film of which you speak is highly inaccurate histroically, it makes up a lot of things, including Elizabeth having s*x all over the place.

If she had had s*x with anyone, while not being married to them, it would have caused a great scandal for her and it is extremely unlikely that someone as cautious and calculating as Elizabeth would have taken the risk.

If you want to see a reasonably accurate account of Elizabeth's life, I suggest you try watching the old TV series 'Elizabeth R' which is still shown frequently on British TV and I daresay pops up in America from time to time.  Or you might try reading a biography of her, there are lots of good ones available.

  6. You do realise Movies aren't necessarily exact replications of what happened, it's called "artistic license".

It is commonly thought that Elizabeth I was a virgin because she never married.

  7. in Tudor times, the word virgin was often used to refer to any unmarried girl - it didn't imply a physical test. As well, she took up the place that the Virgin Mary had held in the hearts of the English, as a female icon.

Elizabeth probably wasn't a virgin as we understand it, she had very low fertility from what evidence has survived, and she may have been able to take lovers as she pleased without consequences - as well, she read several languages fluently so she may have been well versed in contraception, such as it was.

Almost certainly she had a long love affair with her best friend Robert Dudley, the Earl of Leicester, and perhaps with his successor as the favourite, Essex. The movie stories that she fancied Raleigh, and others, have no basis in fact that I have read.

Elizabeth had smallpox at 30 and her hair thinned out a lot, so she wore a wig for the rest of her life. A woman's hair was not to be cut, said tradition, so a woman without long hair regarded herself as unfeminine, as some still do today. Elizabeth was very vain and the loss of her hair would have distressed her.

  8. that's what HE said.

  9. Like a few people have said, there's no evidence that she ever slept with anybody. Besides, there's a lot of evidence to support her Virgin Queen moniker considering she was rarely left unattended. It's highly unlilkely that she would have had the opportunity to be intimate with someone let alone doing so without it becoming public knowledge.

And The Blanchett 'Elizabeth' movies are so ridiculous in terms of historical accuracy. I wouldn't believe 95% of what is portrayed in those films.

  10. Back in those days, s*x outside marriage was a sin. And it wasn't exactly equal opportunity, so an unmarried woman having s*x was particularly frowned on. Elizabeth never married, therefore she must have been a virgin. Anyone who said otherwise would have been slandering the Queen's good name. And the Tudors were pretty quick to order executions for anyone who was running around bad mouthing them. So, whatever the "lord dudes" and others might have known to be the case, it would be very dangerous to their futures for them to say anything about the Queen's s*x life - particularly that she was having a s*x life.

But mostly it was because it was movie and some of the things shown in teh movie might not have actually happened.

  11. Because back in those days you did not have s*x until marriage, and considering she was never married they assumed she never had s*x, which some of the people knew otherwise.  She had s*x with a good friend who was a lord, along with a rumor that she had s*x with a famous pirate.  But considering she never got married and never had any kids, that is where the title came from.

  12. Virgin Queen? No she was the Vampire Queen? The family still drink blood 'til this day. xx

  13. I doubt it was common knowledge that the "lord dude raped her or something".

How would you feel if your "other chick" was cutting off all you hair?

  14. A virgin is someone who won't let guys bang her.

She didn't want to give up her power of the throne as she would've been required to if she married.

A woman's hair is her crowning glory.  By cutting it off she may have hoped to make herself undesirable.

  15. she is called " the virgin queen" because she did not marry.

and not all of that movie was fact some of it was fiction.
