  1. It is easier to get across the ocean than it is to get across even a small continent.    And when the opposing places are at same latitude, so growing conditions are same, easy to take plants and recipes between them.

    Imagine living in Ethiopia and expecting same foods as South Africa (different latitude), West Africa (long travel) or Tunisia (both)


  2. mistress of spices is right... its part of the spice trade route.. spices are from india.. and the europeans from europe would pass africa to india to malacca to china... and back..

They are so close to each other.  They are basically seperated by a river (a large river).  Each share the same climate and the same weather conditions.  At one time each were one big land mass, if you believe the big bang theory.  If not, well they are on equal axis of the equator and share the same climate.
