Why is FEAR the prevalent emotion in the society of "Anthem" by Ayn Rand?

  1. Maybe its because they were forced to fear. Their lives were filled with fear because if they didn't do their job properly, if they thought "forbidden" thoughts, or if they didn't live within the guide-lines that were set beforehand, they were severely punished. This fear kept their work and production in line with their 'higher power'. The first line in the book is, "It is a sin to write this".
