Why is Floyd Mayweather considered #1 pound for pound?

He spends 80% of his time with his back towards his opponents instead of weaving or slipping punches (like the boxer Mijares as an example) and he only throws one punch at a time and then holds (see Ricky Hatton fight) his opponent?

  1. Mayweather show you, what boxer need to be. Some boxer cant even use there jab, cant move, dont move there head and cant adjust. Those are fundamental things of boxing. Cotto beat judah and Mosley. Dont give me Quintana. I just got through watching a guy, get beat every round because he cant box. Just stock the other guy that was a boxer, and couldn't adjust. Cotto just learn to use his jab and that's the only thing he did. If Mayweather was to lose, he still be #1 because of what he bring to boxing. Cotto didn't save boxing, Mayweather did. When they want a big payday, they need to fight Mayweather.

  2. with mayweather super talented skills he should be taking more chances and giving us a super entertaining fight. but hes a safety first kinda fighter and its a shame. if he wants to reamain #1 p4p he needs to fight a true contender like the number 1 welterweight cotto. not oscar again. im sure if paquiao beats marquez the pacman will  take the number 1 spot.

  3. Give me a break people. Floyd is #1, not considered, IS #1 because he has been undefeated for over ten years, beaten many past or present world champions, and has won belts in weight classes from 130 to 154.  Like him or not, he gets the job done. Pernell Whitaker, Bernard Hopkins, Winky Wright had styles so ugly you almost hated to watch them fight but they got the job done. Floyd has had some exceptional performances.  He has had some off nights where he doesnt throw so many punches but he can and does throw combinations that are scary (watch the Gatti or Judah fights). He is simply the best and although it seems he does hold back some, he has yet to really be challenged.  I believe when that day comes no one will be able to deny him the credit he is due.  If he fights Cotto I expect him to destroy Cotto in impressive fashion and afterwards everyone will see yeah but he needs to fight Paul Williams or Margarito or someone.....these guys are always out there.  Believe me those guys want Floyd for the money, not because they think they can beat him. He is the best and justifiably so.

  4. Blah, blah, blah lol how is his back to his opponet lol at least your trying to be creative and not saying he is just running. Best Defensive fighter today he doesnt do it by blocking punches either, KO'D Hatton so bye.

Lol at the guy above me who said he should fight a Heavyweight.

  5. because he is undefeated, and has fought all of the best fighters out there!

  6. stupid question, hes without doubt best p4p in boxing and one of the all time greats, its not p4p most entertaining its best boxer, back to his opponent 80% of time dont make me laugh, only throws 1 punch at a time? ask ricky hatton if he thinks that, see 8th round the way he unloaded on hatton upstairs and down was true true class every punch counted and hes not getting hit, ok he does what he has to do to win and that was hattons problem he made mayweather fight, you clearly dont know boxing or r a massive hatton fan and hate mayweather, but im hattons biggest fan and was in vegas for the fight and at the end 15,000 devastated brits could of caused a riot but like the knowledgable fans they were they just tipped there hats to mayweather and were just happy to have seen a true master class from a master boxer

  7. simply b/c he is. who else can you name in boxing right now that has held a world title in 5 different weight divisions never losing even once and most of those wins by way of knockout.

  8. Cause he likes to promote controversy!! Boxing's been on a downward spiral for many yrs. and he's the only one who keeps the sport in the public eye. He hasn't beaten ANYONE of any signifigance to be caleed the best pound for pound fighter! Let him get in there with a Heavyweight and see ow he does!!!

  9. Who knows he really hasn't fought any1 big well only De La Hoya but a old De La Hoya. he did lose that fight to Castillo but they gave it to him anyway.  he hasn't fought no big names No Trinidad, Mosley,Cotto any1 but Oscar who is old and not the same now Oscar knows how Chavez felt

  10. Go learn somthing about boxing and it's sweet science then you will realise how stupid your question actually is.

Look at the way the guy moves, offensively and defensively! Look at his timing and speed. You know nothing of boxing making statements like that and I'm not even a Mayweather fan!

Latest poll in pro boxing asked several current pro's who the best pound for pound was in boxing today, and 90% said Mayweather!

I guess you know more than them as well

  11. I don't know to be honest. I think he needs to beat a few more undefeated guys in his weight classes before he is the #1 pound for pound.

  12. Mayweather as a person is no where near 100% but as a boxer you have to give the guy his dues i was ringside hoping my boy Hatton took him to pieces but instead Floyd dismantled him bit by bit and give the best warrior i have seen a boxing lesson. I dont like him but he is the best.
