Why is GAS considered a "SIN TAX" ????

I can understand Alcohol, Tobacco, Gambling... but GAS???

  1. I don't know!  never heard it was.  

    If so, then it's probably ment as a "sin" for the gas companies.  They make billlions, write off taxes themselves  and we pretty much pay their taxes.  

    I'm confused!!   Don't listen to me!  :-)


  2. asked my mom that yrs ago--she said that some people back then believed driving was a "sin" when you had perfectily good legs, horse, bicycles etc etc. Don't think it was true, of course. But it was believed to be a waste of money to own a car when they had trains and other ways of getting to places.

    Looking at where we are now, I am inclined to agree with them.

  3. Gasoline is subject to excise tax that is used for road maintenance.  Consider it what you have to pay so that you don't have to drive on dirt.

  4. Who says that it is?  I've never heard that one.....
