  1. France is famous for it's food the world over. From Frogs legs to Chocolate to Truffles. Cook's have been going to France to train to be acclaimed Chef's.

  2. I am not sure if this really answers WHY...but beginning with great farms/farmland(great cheeses, butters, wines) and all the local specialties mean meals are more than just food in France. Meals are often 5 courses and last for hours (in restaruants and in homes) the people take the time to enjoy the food and company of those they are with. It is not uncommon to see two friends arguing about politics and philosphy until they are red in the face..and then 2 minutes later jolly and hugging goodbye. Meals are still very family oriented (of course there is fast food, and with the younger generation they are seeing the same problems we have)

I don't know if that gives you enough for your assigment, but explaining the agrigcultural advantages and family life gives you a start!

  3. Because the French are really in to self indulgence.

Food is now their national past time because they pretty much suck at everything else, well almost everything else...

Hey Monique - we'll always have Paris!

  4. read it while walking backwards...that's probably how it was written

  5. It's not "so important" in France - It's just "so miserable" elsewhere  and not only in gastronomy - when you only consider some comments, only here

  6. Probably because France has some of the best agricultural land in Europe.

In areas where its harder to produce enough food to eat the focus is on simple survivial. Relative abundance gives people the luxury of developing a cuisine.

  7. duh, that's because we are aliens... mouhahaha!

seriously, you can't understand french gastronomy till you tasted it. It's DELICIOUS!

It's not IMPORTANT though... I mean, french people don't eat foie gras and canard à l'orange at every meal... We eat like pizzas, pastas and hamburgers more that gastronomical stuff. Gastronomy is just a pleasure brits and americans will never be able to understand. (not that i don't like bangers and mash or hamburgers...)
