Why is Georgia fighting Russia?

Georgia used to be a state with in Russia. When they broke away and became their own sovereign nation, the Russians, obviously, did not like that and there has been strife ever since. Now, there is a section of Georgia that is trying to break away and the Russians are aiding these rebels.

The better question is the reverse.  The Georgian authorities are trying to handle an uprising within their country.  Russia is backing the separatists, probably just to show their own reinvigorating political and economic muscle.

Georgia want to be allies with the US and west and Russia will do anything to stop them. They already sent in tanks and started agression. That is what western appeasement brings.
