  1. There are always the bottle of the barrel cities in every Country. We just think we are lucky they are all in one place & can easily avoid the place. Sad but true.

  2. Glasgow suffers from a mixture of bad luck and failed policies.

During the 1960's the government confidential scientific reports revealed that many inner city areas displayed a disturbing degree of inbreeding.  The populations of many estates were not physically or socially mobile, and a disturbing incidence of genetic problems could be found in some of Britains inner cities.  These were much worse in areas which suffered from a 'brain drain',  where the results of this situation then became more concentrated.  In the  South, where immigration and social mix had been continuous, the problem was not occurring.

The initial results were confirmed by the Army Education Board, who did tests on all recruits under National Service.  It was found that the IQ of those conscripted from the North of the country was significantly lower than that of those further South, and more worryingly - the problem seemed to be getting worse.

A secret policy of mass immigration into the cities of the North of England and Lowland Scotland was therefore put into operation.  Unfortunately, in Glasgow the improved ties with the orient, combined with the prevalence of organised crime in Scotland resulted in a heroin culture unique in the country, and a racial element added to the traditional street violence of the city.

Current government policy is to scale down the unproductive cities throughout the rest of the century, as the heavy industry they were built to service is a thing of the past.

  3. Glasgow is certainly no worse than many other cities in the UK based on your criteria . Glasgow has a progressive regeneration policy and many areas like the East End are going to benefit  from the Commonwealth Games which are coming to the city . The Scottish Government has backed investment for this and other similar projects .

  4. There is always bottom of the barrel places in every big city. I was raised in the East End and although it is a bit dilapidated now , it was not always like that: Parkhead and the surrounding area for instance, was a fantastic place to live in the forties, fifties and the sixties. Parkhead itself boasted no fewer than three picture halls, the Granada, the Three Pees, and the Black Cat not to mention three snooker halls. Allen's, Matheson's, and Smoky Joes. After the war there was plenty of work for the men  and the kids made their own entertainment, Tollcross park was always full of people in the summer months. There was the Bandstand and the museum, tennis courts, and there was a  bowling green for the old men. There were ash football pitches and there was even a little golf course. Maybe another world war is what we need to bring us all to our senses again, as we tend to forget what the war was all about. And then again maybe it's better we do forget about war and find another way forward. Ah, pleasant memories.

  5. You will get rough areas in any large city around the world - maybe you need to get out a bit more. I love living in Glasgow. The people are also fantastic, not like some of the places south of the border!!!!!!!!

  6. WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT ITS NOT MORE ROUGH THAN ANY OTHER CITY IN BRITAIN ALL THE PEOPLE ARE ACTUALLY NICE HERE AND ITS CERTAINLY NOT AS ROUGH AS UR MAKIN IT OT TO BE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. Your talking total c**p. From what you say, you have clearly NEVER been anywhere near Glasgow.
