Why is Golf not in the Olympics?

If sports like table tennis are in the Olympics then why isn't Golf. It's a very popular sport.

Maybe because it takes a large playing field and is not really a sport that more than one person can play at a time. Plus the 18 holes thing really long.

Golf should never be part of the Olympics.

It would never be considered higher than the Majors.

For the same reason Tennis, Soccer & some other sports should be dropped.

If the Olympic Games isn't the highest achievement in that sport it should not be included.

Golf used to be part of the olympics. But it got dropped. Maybe it isn't there now because all sports in the olympics have to adopt the world wide anti-doping code. Perhaps golf refuses to do that.

As for the course being too long - the mens cycling road race was over 200 km (160 miles for those who are still in the 19th century). An 18 hole golf course is no where near that long.
