  1. The popularity of horse racing is not so much the actual race. 99% of interest comes from the gambling that accompanies it. $2.00 and a dream. LOL

  2. because a lot of people like it and if alot of people like it then alot of people will know about it and if a lot of people know about it then obviously it gonna be "popular"

    ericka xx

  3. I got hooked on horse racing when I won $1998 on a $6 trifecta box on May 17, 2001.

And then there is the thrill of the track announcer screaming, "And down the stretch they come."

Maybe you will ask about the down side of horse racing later.

  4. its always well sometimes on the news and the newspaper

  5. It's just fun watching those ******** trying to run down the street in their short skirts and stilettos ! Sharon the crackhead always seem to win down our way.

  6. It is not as popular as it used to be, or indeed should be.

In years gone by hundreds of thousands of Londoners would flock to Epsom to watch the Derby and I believe Parliment was often closed to allow the MPs to attend.

For the vast majority of people the interest is in the betting and the possibility of making money.

For others, like me, it is the horses that draw me to the racecourse - and my job!

For fewer still it is about the social aspect of life.  Royal Ascot still forms part of "the season" where the rich socialites travel around to see and be seen.

Racing does need to market itself to the "ordinary man" more: many people still see it as an elite sport but a lot of courses are going out of their way to host family days and the evening racing meetings followed by muscial performances are drawing in a new generation.

  7. The only horses I follow seem to follow other horses......

  8. Some people love horses.

    Some love the atmosphere.

    Some love to gamble.

  9. Horse Racing is NOT popular.

As late as the early 60's, horse racing was the #2 sport in the USA, behind only baseball and ahead of Boxing, the #3 sport.  Every major paper in the country had horse racing writers, now there are only 3 papers with full time racing reporters outside Kentucky.

There were many more tracks in operation, mostly small local tracks.  The biggest tracks back then mostly, but not all, still survive today.

I don't know what was really responsible for the decline, other than the meteoric rise of the NFL, and later, the NBA.  Horse racing, boxing, and baseball all took a popularity hit, but horse racing and boxing suffered greatly.

It seems that horse racing is making a small comeback, but increasingly it seems that the horse racing industry has made casino gambling the key to its survival.  I don't think you need slot machines or table games to keep horse racing alive, but as long as Magna is throwing around the money, that will be the prevailing trend, for better or worse.

  10. Horse racing is so popular because there are a lot of horse lovers and racers out there. People probably also enjoy the betting part of the race to see how much money they can win.

  11. Its really not that popular...if it was...ESPN would have alot more coverage on it and more than the Knetucky Derby would be aired
