I am angry with INDIAN goverment who do not care about deaf people that the US povide. US has a university named "Gallaudet University" for deaf . I am profound deaf(80% loss of both ears) and I've to face huge difficulties in my entire life. I had to study in normal school where all my classmates were hearing only i'm deaf (coz the deaf school in INDIA is so so poor i can not think ). Now I am in normal college and doing graduation. I never use sign language nor hearing aids. I have to work hard to get help from hearing classmates that is why i have to keep my academic record best. Till then I have to stand first in my class. If i become poor in my studies no body can help me(i know this also happens to hearing students).

Now I am a happy :) young guy aged 20 with lots of experience from difficulties.

I am now satisfied with what i have.

I think I should do something for deaf people in INDIA.

Thanx for ur reply.

  1. Hello-

Thank you for your time to write your questions-

I understand how difficultly you have been through without any services provided. When I was in middle school and high school back in 1980's, these school did not provide me a special needs like sign language interpreters or oral interpreters for five years. All I had the "note takers" to write the notes in every classes I took. They helped a little but they were worth to keeping my grades in level. I've already graduated from high school and then ten years later, I decided to enroll the college. When I was at community college, they automatically provided me two interpreters through all of my four years programs. Those time of the years passed and now USA have the ADA- "American Disability Acts" law that we as deaf or handicap have our rights to have the services to be provided at anywhere else. You know Indian goverment- should know about that kind of law. A lot of people who are not aware of this situation and ADA law that many handicap people are needed.

I'm glad you are doing very well and also you did not give your educational and goals up. Good for you!

    Ginny

  2. I think you are amazing and have accomplished a lot.

An American friend of mine, also a teacher of the Deaf, like myself, traveled to India with Rotary Club, a world wide program and visited many schools who had Deaf children, but poor education like you describe.

Here are some sites. Perhaps you can contact them.
