Can anyone tell me why is Information Technology used in the Transportation and how is it implemended?

    That just fancy word for computer.  If you ever come into a train depot and see the big board (of train schedule) you can get an idea of how they use IT.

    Train scheduling

    Billing and ticketing

    Web data updates

    etc.

  2. In todays world, IT drives service delivery. It's everywhere, so I'm not sure as how to answer the "why" since it's so obvious. It's a key enabler to doing business (anywhere)!

    Some uses of IT in the transportation industry that I can recall (ranges from applications in the back end, to networks for connecting offices, to public facing services)

    - red light enforcement (stop light cameras)

    - driver/vehicle licensing systems

    - weigh stations (those truck stops at the side of the highway)

    - toll route systems

    - public transportation scheduling

    - networking for information routing and exchange (getting data from the highway, to the transportation officer, to the public)
