Why is Internet Explorer popping up when I try to download files?

Whenever I try to download certain files, like .zip or some audio files, Internet Explorer starts popping up almost seizure-like, opening and closing itself. I can't do anything to stop it, and it's really frustrating. Anybody have any idea what's causing this?

U should try Firefox. Firefox is a web browser that is basically like Internet Explorer, but it runs 127% faster
