It's not just Iowa. The whole US is changing to digital as of Feb 17, 2009. It's a change that's been in the works for about 20 years and was delayed many times. It's a way to make better use of the TV spectrum by transmitting digital compressed data. In fact, about 100 Mhz of spectrum (channels 52 to 69) was recently auctioned off and will be put to different use by the big telecom comapnies, Verizon and AT&T, after the transition.
