Question:

Why is Jamaica suddenly so dominant in sprinting events?

Anybody have any input into this? It seems that, suddenly, the relatively small nation of Jamaica has come to dominate the sprinting events in track and field much like the Romanians used to with gymnastics. Have the started a national training program with the specific focus of producing sprinters?

  1. They have nothing else to do on that beautiful island of Jamaica.

So they run, and run and run.

    Like the "Forest Gump".

  2. How in the world does this surprise you? Donovan Bailey? Usain Bolt? They produce the fastest runners in the world.

  3. Because the USA finally got caught cheating with all the drugs they all take.. about time someone else finally one anyway... the 100m i believe they deserved it because they were good. Also some of the US team get hot headed and think they never have any competition and will always win...well gee this 2008 olympics has had different outcomes.. check out the medal tally the only reason why usa are still second is prob cos of michael phelps doing really well.

  4. well, running is a pretty big deal in Jamaica. Children run everywhere and  often become so inspired by the olympic athletes that they start early and therefore are incredibly strong runners by the time they get to the olympics.

  5. our country is to big to not own a car and run everywhere? bummer..

  6. USA is still generally more dominant in everything

  7. If we can only recruit those athletes, USA will be dominate in track....

  8. it must be the pot they smoke over there.

  9. I've been told by a reliable source that the jamaican sprint  team is suffering from bad case of the explosive diarrhoeaa & the reason they are so quick is that they are running for the toilet b4 they have an accident.

  10. Jamaicans have always been fast runners.  Donovan Bailey and Ben Johnson were both born there.  They must have managed to get people to stop immigrating away
