Why is Jay Leno being forced to leave the "Tonight Show" so soon?

I'm a huge fan of "The Tonight Show" with Jay Leno and can't understand why NBC is giving Leno the boot after only 15 years? It just doesn't make sense. Just about everyone likes and respects Jay and his ratings have always been higher then Letterman's.

I'm a big Conan fan as well, but it seems like his attitude has changed since he found out he would take over for Leno. He seems more arrogant and complains about every little odd and end about his own show during each broadcast. Don't even get me started about Jimmy Fallon. So what's really the true story about Leno’s early departure?

i must say that i dont watch a lot of late night talk shows but when i do, i always used to watch jay leno. and he always famous for that enormously long chin

Because they are honoring the contract- which Jay signed years ago.

I haven't had a chance to watch Conan since finding out about the change I'm a huge Conan fan but truely hoped that the move wouldn't change him. I know this is unrelated to the question but just wanted to add that.
