Why is Kobe so much more loved in China than here

x factor - Kobe jerseys everywhere, cheering for him at the opening ceremonies, and the biggest ovation out of any USA player at the China game (it rivaled the ovation given to Yao!) He's clearly the most popular USA player.

This a cheap joke, but here goes. Because he has an Asian name. No, but seriously The Chinese culture takes pride in the being the best, and Kobe is the best. That's why Yao gets so much love, he is the best Chinese player to date.

Really?  How so?

China doesn't get exposure to other NBA team and so they probably doesn't know any other player except for Yao and Kobe.  Kobe and Lakers probably have more exposure playing for LA.  It doesn't really mean much.  If you ask all the Chinese in the stadium, I doubt they can name more then 3 players by name other then Yao and Yi.

Because most americans take him for granted.  I don't understand why people still call Kobe a rapist, I mean the girl did drop the charges didn't she, weren't s***n and pubic hairs of different men found in her panties, why would Kobe rape someone if he's got the money to buy any ****** he wants, and not to mention his wife with 2 kids.

its all just matter of opinion. china is pretty hardcore about controlling the media that comes in and out of there so it wouldn't surprise me if its something that they didn't make a big deal about. they don't worry about outside influences outside of the cash cow that is the olympics.

Because the Chinese people see greatness when they see Kobe. He's the best basketball player in the world right now. Most people here in the States don't appreciate Kobe because they're delusional people who will be mad at anyone that comes close to surpassing Jordan as the best basketball player. Kobe just happens to be the one baller that is capable of doing it. That's why they hate Kobe.
