  1. Hum...  Interesting question.

First off, lots of sports figures write books and many are very successful.  I think lots of people love to read the books about sports figures and other celebrities to get a bit of insight into their motivations, personality, and self.

Secondly, Armstrong's bout with cancer and subsequent recovery are pretty incredible and compelling.  No one has as many Tour de France championships.

Thirdly, his life has a rags to riches quality that is pretty compelling.

Finally, it is a well written book.  Now, I don't mean well written in the sense of a literary masterpiece.  It is just simple, straightforward, nicely organized, and accessible.  I think a lot of people have foundd inspiration in it whether they are a cyclist or not.

    Hope this helps.

  2. Because he was diagnosed with a virulent form of testicular cancer that spread to other parts of his body, including his brain, but he reacted becoming two time Tour De France winner, post cancer, as well as a new Dad and Olympian.

  3. Because the guy is an inspiration. I just had brain surgery and I bought a bike myself. Can't believe how long it takes to get anywhere.
