  1. Umm, who says it is?  I'm sure it's a good machine, maybe even very good, but $1,500 for a baselone macbook w/2GB RAM and applecare is a bit much for a machine lacking discrete graphics.

It sounds like you already think it's a great machine so you shoukd have very specific ideas as to why you think that is.

  2. The laptop fits the person. Windows offers ease of use and acces, but so does Macintosh for different people. Also please be aware that Macintosh is as prone to virus and malware threats as much as Windows, so don't buy a Mac, hoping to be safe from the threats that lurk. Do some more research about the two, then, see which one you like.

  3. I have been into IT and technical services for over 26 years.

Owned/used in my business 16 PC computers in 12 years for me.

Have owned and used only 4 Macs in 12 years for me.

    Why?

Let us get a reality fix here.

    PC's need:

    Defragging because of slow downs.

AntiVirus software for - DUH - viruses.

Deep scans for Bots, Root Kits, Phishing, Spybot etc.

    Anti Virus updates.

Anti virus check every time on start up.

    Blue screens of death.

    Software updates from Windows.

Just had 11 updates this very freaking hour!

    Has updates to fix updates.

    Some updates kill your software.

    Drivers that must be updated.

    Hardware updates for OS changes.

Full OS reinstalls because of file loading errors.

    Lockups due to file incompatibilities.

    Mac's need:

    None of the above.

    By the way.

There are only (2) - yup count' em - (2) viruses for Mac's.

And those have to be actuated and installed by operator error!

Mac's have no problem with viruses because of the OS.

Can't be limited popularity as so many experts say.

Because Mac's are number (3) in sales.

12 of the 16 PC's have had to be replaced or upgraded.

All the Mac's are still working.

Vista runs faster on Mac's then almost ALL PC's!

Mac's only run PC software because it is cost effective.

If you have to buy a Mac, why also buy a PC?

For $350 for Vista Ultimate you get the worlds fastest Vista!

Macs are for people who need computers that never fail.

That work 100% of the time 24 hours a day.

    That can manipulate HUGE files.

MAC's come with audio/video editing software.

A REAL video editing suite - Standard.

They also come with a REAL audio editing suite - Standard.

Upper level Macs come standard with Digital Input/Output - Standard.

Macs also play games just fine with Parallels or VM Ware.

    Macs use Postscript printers.

    PC's can't even print reliably.

    Here is a sample.

Almost always PC PowerPoint will not print posters on a PC.

Guess where it will print from?

    MAC!

    How do I know this?

Because that is what I do as a living now over 12 years.

So if you value your data.

    If you value your time.

    If you want consistency.

If you want ease of use.

Remember, Macs' OS is the OS Vista failed to be!

If you want to save money in the long run - Go Mac.

If all you want is cheap performance.

Then that is just what you will get - CHEAP!

Mac's are NOT built for a price point.

They are built to be used for data.

If you go to school all year for a project, want to risk losing it?

If your business rides on it, want to risk losing it?

    I don't know about you.

But there have been many times where PC's have let me down.

Mac's have only done so twice - AND it was my fault.

Also think of all the off-line time that a PC has.

Remember most Mac's are way more equipped than PC's.

With ALL the software you will ever need already installed.

When matching CAPABILITIES they cost the same!

  4. because it has an apple on the back

  5. They're not. The only people I see buying Macs are those who lack computer skills.

  6. Ok trust me, I own a newer (mid 2007) 24" iMac and right now I am posting from my other mac, the Black MacBook.

The laptop is an amazingly thin extremely powerful, useful, and overall fun laptop, and also it is much more inexpensive than the MacBook Pro or the absurdly overpriced macBook Air.

It still has some touch controls, it comes with a mic and iSight implanted so well that you can not even see them if you have the black one, the keyboard (I write a lot of novels and such) is the most delightful and joyous keyboard ever, it feels amazing when using it, and the design is so simple you do not like other laptops get a buh of annoying keys and weird controls, you get a huge trackpad, a simple design, and also with the power, i will tell you that, for instance, I use Adobe CS3 and the MacBook is so fast when using it, it is a pleasure like all macs to work on.

Plus you also get iLife, and when purchasing from an apple store you get a ton of options, if you want the apple care plan, iWork, Office, etc.

The laptop in the end is an absolute delight to use, and you get a lot more for your money then a pc.

  7. Apart from being very cool and having this cool dock thing that rises up in waves as you scroll along it, and having all these cool things that come up when you press F12, the best thing about the Macbook is what it doesn't do, for example it doesn't get all those viruses and spyware that you get with other PCs. And it doesn't go into a coma or commit suicide just when you're about to do something vital. And it's very easy and intuitive to operate.

The downside is that (a) it's expensive and (b) the screen is kind of small. But the screen on the Macbook Pro is bigger, so if you can afford it get one of those. They are the Rolls Royce of laptops.

  8. macs are not better than pc and vice versa. it's just a matter of what features you need. if you are a photoshop, pro tools, final cut pro power user then the high cost of a mac may be for you. if you are a gamer then pc romps mac. that said some mac run intel processors so you can run windows programs.

  9. It is only ideal if it is suiting the functions that you require.

For example, if I wanted to play a whole bunch of games on mine, I would be better with a Windows PC. Where if I wanted to have a laptop that was very reliable for work or something that didn't require windows functionality then it is perfect.

It would all depend on what you want it to do. Find something that does what you want, and it will be ideal for you. Nothing is ideal for everyone.

  10. In 3 years I have NEVER re-booted or fixed anything on my macs.

My hubby's XP fried its motherboard. Boy that was fun. And costly.

My macs are like my cars, they just keep working.

My spouse's XPs always need re-booting and some fricking thing fixed EVERY blessed day.

  11. there cool thin and fast and expensive

  12. Mac vs. PC picture

There's not much decisions to be made when choosing a Mac if you want to get one.  It mainly depends on your wallet.

If you decide to go PC, Get one with Vista 64-bit.  They usually have the best specs that will last long.

If this is any indication that 64-bit is the wave of the future and 32-bit will be “obsolete”…

“There appears to be a shift taking place in the PC industry: the move from 32-bit to 64-bit PCs.

We've been tracking the change by looking at the percentage of 64-bit PCs connecting to Windows Update, and have seen a dramatic increase in recent months. The installed base of 64-bit Windows Vista PCs, as a percentage of all Windows Vista systems, has more than tripled in the U.S. in the last three months, while worldwide adoption has more than doubled during the same period.  Another view shows that 20% of new Windows Vista PCs in the U.S. connecting to Windows Update in June were 64-bit PCs, up from just 3% in March. Put more simply, usage of 64-bit Windows Vista is growing much more rapidly than 32-bit. Based on current trends, this growth will accelerate as the retail channel shifts to supplying a rapidly increasing assortment of 64-bit desktops and laptops.”

  13. There is a couple of reason people like the macbook produced by Apple.

People get it because it looks cool and is sleek and smooth to the touch. Also it is very good for designers and digital artists.

Its not very good at doing word processing and connect to pcs through email. Weird characters and fonts show up because the fonts from mac and pc mostly arent compatable.

Also apple macbook isnt really better than windows, just depends what you do for a living or what you do for school or just for fun.

  14. because they run windows and mac they look better better software they have alot of good little things that the windows computers do not have

    help me with my ?
