Why is Marcel Hossa a UFA? Isn't he suppose to be a RFA?

Sportscity has him listen RFA....

Before I always thought he was a RFA, but according the the Phoenix website it says he's going to go to July 1st and become a UFA.......what on Earth is he?

  1. Marcel was a RFA, but in order to retain his rights, Phoenix has to make him a qualifying offer which is the current salary plus a small raise.  Phoenix felt he wasn't worth that, and didn't tender the offer, which makes him a UFA.


  2. Players who don't receive a qualifying offer by June 25th(yesterday) become unrestricted free agents.

  3. Ok, here I think I finally figured it out. I believe he is currently restricted, but I believe the Phoenix Coyotes are not interested in making him an offer, which will make him eligible for UFA on July 1st.
