you hear so many people that have been to the canary islands and enjoyed it so much, and on the news you hear that the canaries has been very popular for centuries because of clubs and beaches etc, on the other hand, Mauritania (and Western Sahara) which also has lovely beaches, so isolated that some of the vast majority of holiday makers have not even heard of it yet its only just across the water, Why is this? Wouldnt they have like day trips to nearby places like Mauritania?

  1. Mauritania, I'm afraid to say, is a third world dump with limited tourist facilities. Medical facilities in Mauritania are limited, and medicines are difficult to obtain.

Political stability is a problem with terrorist groups operating.. American citizens are urged to avoid travel in areas along Mauritania's border with Algeria, and its northern border with Mali.

There are banditsand landmines along the border with the Western Sahara.

During periods of political unrest, demonstrators have been known to throw rocks at passing cars.  Sounds a nice place!

The Canary Islands are part of Spain and thus a first world country, very safe and with excellent facilities for tourists
