  1. 1.  A celebration while people might be losing their homes is unwise.

    2.  There are many states involved in this hurricane situation, not just LA.  Officials and delegates representing those states must stay home to make preparations for their constituents.

    3.  Lives of people are more important than this convention.

All in all, it's an honorable decision and I support it.  And for the idiots who say otherwise, I hope that you'll do something constructive like sending financial help to those who need it, instead of simply running your mouths.

  2. They are throwing in the towel.

It is almost sad to hear the Republicans destroy their own credibility by defending Palin.

They are REALLY going to be pissed when they find out they have been had.

  3. there some things more important than a pep rally..not that it wouldn't be fun

  4. Because a potentially huge natural disaster like Gustav is way more important than any political convention. It would be inappropriate to hold the convention at a time when people's lives are in peril.

  5. He is downplaying the fact that he is just 4 more years of Bush.  Bush was a disaster for the state of the country..

Elect McCain; expect more of the same...

  6. so he can get a cheap photo-op in Mississippi...

  7. Obama has stepped in and said he would stop the storm .

  8. I don't get it either, lol!  But I think that Bush and Cheney are just using it as an excuse because the Republicans don't want them there to bring them down!  Plus, Bush & Co love their long vacations and Labor Day is a holiday (which is also the first day of the convention)!

suthrngal: Lol--did you forget about Bush and McCain celebrating while Katrina was going on?  And Bush continuing the rest of his vacation while people were stranded and drowning?

  9. Because of you recall Bush was celebrating McCain's birthday with him during Katrina instead of at least pretending to look like he was concerned.......gotta stifle those images dude!!!

  10. Cite your source please.

All I have heard is the the President and Vice-President will not be attending.

Edit: He is not cancelling the convention, but is rescheduling events and may make it a business only affair; no speeches, just business.

  11. I don't think its cancelled.  They have to go through the motions of the nominations sooner or later.  But if they turn it in to a "We are the world" event it will look better on them.  They can use a tagedy to further their candidate.

  12. it has not been canceled but we are going to just take care of business and do what is required.  so it will be toned down a lot.

it would not be appropriate to party while other suffer.  can you imagine the press if we did.  "damed if you do, damed it you don't"

we want our convention to be a happy time and be filled with pride but we know that many are being displaced by nature and we grieve with them. we have compassion, that should not be hard to figure out why we would not party.

  13. The same reason it was silly for Bush to be reading a children's story that September morning.

  14. Because nobody will be paying attention to him if Katrina 2 is slamming New Orleans.

Or maybe he's just pretending to care.

  15. Why should we party when there are people fleeing for their lives?

  16. The convention will still take place, only without the presence of Bush and Cheney, and with scaled down partying.

Its a shame, it is a payoff party for the hard work the soldiers of the RNC did to bring their candidate to nomination.

On the other hand, the two men who are so cordially disliked by the American pubic will not be there in person.

I wonder if McCain secretly did a rain dance in a hot tub with Palin to get that result.

As to the why of it, it would look terrible to have drunken Republicans wearing elephant trunks while New Orleans drowns once again.

To their credit, they seemed to have learned that the little people didn't like it and they are making sure its not repeated.

  17. Because TV news would have depicted the cheering happy crowds at the convention and split the screen with the storm and its wrath, depicting Republicans as insensitive and uncaring.

  18. Cut and run
