Why is McDonald's the Official Restaurant of the Olympics? ?

McDonalds paid the Olympics tons of money to make themselves their Official restaurant.  This has been going on for many years.  The athletes and quarter pounders is just for advertising.  Since they both get tons of money because of their partnership, they're lovin' it.

Well... they have added salads to their menu ;)  It's money. Along with other sponsors, they pay lots of money for that privileged.  I know this relationships dates back to at least the 1984 Olympics (which was in LA).   The 1980s Olympics were in Moscow, so when the US got them in 1984 there was a big push for all things American .... including McDonald's.  Mc Donald's had this great game going.  If the US team won a certain medal in the sport and you had that game piece, you got a free Burger, fries, drink, etc. It depended on the medal the US got.  It was a huge hit (since the USSR didn't compete and the US won a ton of metals).

It should be noted that the athletes are not eating McDonald's for all of their meals. For example, the US Olympic committee made the decision to import all of the food it will serve to their athletes.  Tyson's sent all types of meat for this competition and gives athletes a bag that has all the requirements (pot, heater w/converter, chicken packet, etc.) for lean protein on the road.  Most of the food is coming from the US, Australia, and a few more importers that don't use banded substances.

And just for a bit of humor ... after reading what Michael Phelps eats, I guess it doesn't matter if he has a few Quarter Pounders every now and then :)
