  1. look it up my God!

  2. The root of the word Civilization, comes from city. This "cradle", is where the earliest known cities formed. Prior to the "Flood" of Noah, a prehistoric people, called Ubaids, lived here. This would be earlier than 7,000 years ago. They had farming villages, and a system of irrigating their fields...

After the Flood, the area was re-populated by Sumerians, and many various Semitic tribes, and this region became the model for all future farming/city-based civilizations.

  3. Its know as the cradle of civilization because that is where the first known civilization appeared.  The Sumerians.  Also its where at least 13 other civilizations appeared or after conquering the area set up shop.

  4. This is due to evidence of a civilization existing in that area at least 6,500 years ago.  The climate & building materials allowed us to unearth evidence of the existance of a civilization.  Buildings of stone, or earth in a dry climate, tend to last 1000s of years... those of wood in wetter climates tend to disappear in a few 100 yrs.

Evidence of the agricultural revolution spreading from that area is fairly conclusive, in that most of the plants cultivated in Europe & North Africa are found in the fertile crescent & are thought to have started there.
