Why is Michael Schumacher still unable to make an impression after his return to Formula 1?
It is said that to achieve something is difficult but to maintain is even difficult. Such is the case with the seven-time Formula 1 champion Michael Schumacher.
After achieving the heights in the Formula 1 arena which a driver can only dream of, the German has failed to live up to his name in the 2011 Formula 1 season and is consistently denting his reputation which he earned over the period of fifteen years.
In the 2011 Formula 1 championship, where five world champions are battling for the glory, Schumacher is the one considered as the underdog. Surely, he wouldn’t have thought that he will be the one that no one will put his money on.
However, the truth is that the German has failed to show any resilience to the modern Formula 1 machines and drivers.
After returning to the Formula 1 arena with the newly formed Mercedes team in the 2010 Formula 1 season, Schumacher failed to solve the modern driving mystery. He was mostly found struggling for positions with the lower ranked drivers.
He finished well behind his teammate Nico Rosberg in the 2010 season. The German can blame his luck as he came back with a new team which was on a learning curve and also for the fact that his experience was not going to help him with such innovative driving
forces.
The fact that he was beaten by his much younger teammate, provoked the media to suggest that Schumacher should give up on his Formula 1 career.
However, the German was motivated to bring some more glories to his already shining career and stepped into the 2011 season.
However, right from the first race of the 2011 season in Australia, the 42-year-old German has still failed to show any signs of competitiveness left in him. Six races in the season, Schumacher has already failed to complete two of them as he crashed in
Australia and more recently in Monaco.
However, the Monaco Grand Prix was not Schumacher’s fault as the car suddenly came to a halt entering the pit lane. Apart from that, Mercedes 2011 car MGP-W02 is also playing its part in Schumacher’s downfall.
Still the German is not the same threat to the front running drivers as he used to be. Many times in the 2011 season, he was overtaken by the front running drivers rather easily and despite some of them saying that the German is an icon, no one really counts
him as a championship contender.
But why the German is failing consistently since the past two years?
The answers can be many starting with his age. Despite having more than fifteen years of racing experience, the seven-time world champion is starting from zero against the new rules and regulations of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
Because of the fact that Formula 1 now-a-days is more like driving a space ship with all the innovations, the veteran of the game is finding it difficult to handle the equipment. In comparison, all the young drivers are adapting well to the situation and
are using the innovations to full effect.
Still every now and then, the Formula 1 world gets to see the unique and to-the-limit driving of the German which gives his fans some hope that he will win some races soon.
Let’s see if Schumacher manages to impress in the remainder of the 2011 season.
