RAY WAS MAYBE THE BETTER FIGHTER. IN THEM DAYS THE CROWDS WAS HUGH SO IF YOU WANTED TO SEE YOUR HERO YOU PROBABLY HAD TO GOT TO WERE THE FIGHT WAS IT MAY NOT OF BEEN ON TV. SUGAR WAS NOT LIKE ALI AS HE COULD FIGHT AND TALK AND WAS THE 1ST SUPER STAR IN BOXING AND AT THIS TIME TV WOULD NOT JUST SHOW THE FIGHTS NOW IT WAS  SHOWING  BEFORE AND AFTER AND SHOWING TALK SHOWS WITH OTHER FIGHTERS.TIMES CHANGED AND YOU COULD SEE YOU HERO IN YOUR OWN HOME..BUT THERE WAS ONLY ONE ALI...BUT RAY I WILL SAY WAS A BETTER FIGHTER..

THE BIGGEST NAME IN BOXING AND THIS WILL ALWAYS BE ALI

Ali is not someone whose fame was solely formed as a boxer. Outside of the ring he used his celebrity status, charm, wit, and courage to challenge people to think differently about things.

He became recognized as a powerful example of individual freedom. He didn't let people or institutions or society hold him down. And because he didn't, he inspired many people to believe in themselves.

The question of a young person but a good one none the less.  The main reason is popularity.  Fame and Talent are two different things.  Both Robinson and ALI are two of the greatest fighters who ever lived.  

The reason they are often compared to each other is because ALI is the closest thing to a heavyweight version of Robinson the world has ever seen.

Both had very similar styles and NO fighter ever had better "BALANCE" than either of these two.  98% of all fighters lack the balance these two had.  They are great for many other reasons as well.  

The reason Robinson is ranked higher is because he had the ONE thing ALI lacked,  One Punch KO power.  He could do it ALL.

The reasons ALI is more famous are many.  He was a World Famous FIGHTER and PERSON.  Robinson was famous world-wide but NO ONE EVER made as many head lines as ALI.  For good reasons and not so good reasons,  Love him or Hate him,  ALI was ALWAYS in the news.  

Many people turned against him when he refused the draft in 1966.

Knowing what he stood to lose, (Fame, Fortune, Freedom, possibly his life), he continued to stand his ground for what he believed in.

In the end the world came to see that ALI was right and the Powers that be were wrong for the actions it took against him.
