Why is Mt. Vesuvius important to our study of civilizations?

Vesuvius... Is that the one that buried a city?

Its important since Mt Vesuvius was a sacred mountain, one that the city was centered on, it erupted, and the people died in its ash.     its pretty much important since its part of greek ( or roman... not sure) history.

When it erupted in 79 AD, it covered Pompeii and froze it in time.  It can be studied to see what their culture was like.

Because it preserved the people and town of pompeii under volcanic ash and once excavated showed us exactly how these people lived in their time...

I would look up Pompeii to answer this...pompeii has a brothel with pictures from the kama sutra painted on the walls.. it has a "take away" where terracotta pots were used to keep food hot and cold for the people.. you can still see the kart marks on the cobblestone.. the roads have directions marked on the surrounding walls to show you if its a one way or two way street.. they even have pictures of p***s' on their doorways...  I was totally blown away by how advanced this civilisation was in its day... Pompeii is very impressive...
