Why is NASA looking for life on other planets, what about the life here on earth that is doomed?

If we used their technology to sustain life here would we have the energy problem that we have, such as the solar panels they use?

if we did find life elsewhere what would it do to help our problem?

NASA constantly looks for life on other planets because of man's thirst for the unknown. And admit it: which one will make the bigger news:

(A) Discovery of Wild ET in Neptune, communication made

(B) Saving children's lives (and other everyday charity stuff)

Charity? UNICEF? Cures for diseases, etc etc.? BORING! It's too passe for the media. The media wants something more exciting, more... unknown. The ET will rake in the money and the fame. NASA are a bunch of humans too, y'know.

And besides, life here on earth isn't doomed. Plenty of reproduction going around.

I believe that scientists are looking for succesful and intelligent life on other planets in order to borrow their technology to help our planet.

why they are not using the ittle we have right now to solve this problems we are expiriencing, i'm not quite sure.

The quest of man is to explore. While most are afraid of the unknown there is a dying urge to explore it. Why even care about what is beyond our reach??? Its just so we can know, and maybe someone new to pick on.

Yes, that's what I've been saying all along.  Why do they keep searching for water all over the universe when we're drowning in it here on Earth?  Don't they realize that water vapor and CO2 are the 2 primary byproducts of combustion and aerobic respiration?!  Think of all the animals respiring on this planet and you'll have an idea of the magnitude of the problem.  The animal kingdom contributes just as much to global warming as humans do.

Combustion:

Butane C4H10 + 6.5 O2 --> 4 CO2 + 5 H2O

Aerobic Respiration:

C6H12O6 + oxygen --> 6 CO2 + 6 H2O + energy

Clearly, NASA and all the other space agencies in the world need to begin hauling bottled water to Mars and all of the 160+ moons in our solar system.  That's because the Earth is like a fishbowl, it just fills up with water unless some of it's offloaded to other globes.

Write or petition your space agency to transport clean bottled water and other supplies to the moons and Mars.

Ban smoking altogether since combustion byproducts from cigarettes add more water vapor, CO2 and pollutants to the atmosphere.

Push for terraforming and bioforming as viable and sustainable means of building rich and thick atmospheres on other planets and moons.   An atmosphere not only provides us with oxygen and other gases, but also blocks out x-ray, gamma and uv rays.

Demand that magnetic fields be in place on every moon and planet deemed habitable, to protect future space inhabitants from cosmic rays.  Superconducting Rings and dynamos create magnetic fields.

Take off your sunglasses, Sparky!  What makes you think that no one uses solar panels except for NASA?  Our "problem" is one of education.  It's free, yet there are many who refuse to take advantage of it.  If you have no interest in life elsewhere, you must be living in your parents' basement with rats and roaches.

Emily... the "they" that you speak of should be "we".  Don't just sit back and judge without doing something yourself.  If you aren't part of the solution, you're part of the problem.  Educate yourself and GET OUT THERE AND DO SOMETHING.
