Why is Obama's birth certificate so important?

Clearly, United States Congress and the Executive Administration would not allow him to run for Presidency if he was not an American citizen. So why is this a focal point of the Reps debate against Obama?

I got my free gift card from Obama already and it says " I will raise your taxes" and then on the next line it say's "You want change, the only thing you will have left when I am president is some change"

Has anyone ever asked any other presidential candadite to show proof of where he was born?  This is just the republicans way of attacking Obama once again.  They are saying that he spent too much of his childhood outside of the continental U.S. but wouldn't you want to have a president who has travelled and knows how other countries are?  How do we really know where McCain was born?  The government wants most people to retire at 65 yet McCain is welllll above that age so isn't he just too old to be president?  Wouldnt' a younger more modernized president do America some good?  Obama is more down to earth while McCain seems to think only those people who make more than $5 million a year should be considered rich !  He is so out of touch with middle class Americans.  He also is against g*y marriage.  He's just too much of a stiff and doesn't know how "regular" folks live because his wife is a billionaire !

This is not even close to being a focal point for the Reps. The media has hidden any mention of it. You only see it mentioned in blogs and places where the caring citizens can bring it up. We can only hope that Hillary will somehow take over when the Dem Convention starts. Hopefully she will use this to crush him. I think both she and the Reps and are staying low with it until then. Watch out then!

Know it all - it was only a few months ago Dems were saying McCain was disqualified cus he was born in Panama....but you knew that, you know it all!

Because at the moment EVERYONE is going by Obama's say so.  Who is to truly know IF he can't produce a legitimate, legal document of his birth.  Come on.  The Presidential position, and our Country is too important NOT TO HAVE THIS INFORMATION.

Republicans suspect that Barack Obama is lying about his age, and that he is in fact a fastidious exfoliator who is much much older than John McCain, who is said to be as old as time. The Republican strategy is thus to prove that Barack Obama is older than time itself, which is impossible, and therefore that he does not exist.

This has nothing to do with race or religion.

1.  If Obama was born outside the United States, he is ineligible to run for president.  

“If only one parent was a US citizen at the time of your birth, that parent must have resided in the United States for at least ten years, at least five of which had to be after the age of 16.”

2.  If the name on Obama's birth certificate is not Barack Hussein Obama, he could be charged with perjury for lying on his Attorney's Application (amoung other applications) for not listing other former names.

3.  Proof of other names, such as Barry Soetoro, may lead to the discovery that his Indonesian citizenship overrides his US citizenship.  That would make him not eligible to be a US Senator.

Obama has a lot of reasons to hid his birth certificate.  The Republicans will wait until after the Democratic convention to bring this all out.

It isn't the focal point at all - just one more thing in a long line of deceptions and foggy stories.

The Constitution requires that a president be born a US citizen, and many are having a problem because Obama cannot show this on a valid birth certificate.  Actually Congress and the Executive Administration are the very ones with the question.

They cannot stop you from running, but I think he will have a hard time getting worn in without better proof.

Because attacking one's policies is impossible to do.  We must go after remedial things...like his wife's thesis in college.
