Why is Ohio considered to be a midwestern state?

That doesn't make sense to me. Ohio is clearly a northeastern state. Right?

  1. It's west of the Appalachian Mountains, so it's considered more Midwest than Northeast.


  2. It was not one of the 1st 13 colonies, and it is across the Alleghenies.  It was part of the Northwest territory, which includes it with Indiana and Illinois.

    Plus it is a crossroads, like the Midwest is/

  3. Ohio is considered part of the Midwest Region of the United States, and is a Midwestern state.  Geographically, it is a North Central state.
