Why is Olmert stepping down as pres. of israel?

I find it weird.  The two Prime Ministers closest to finding peace with the Palestinians - have both been ousted.

Y. Rabin assassinated by Extremist Orthodox Jew.

Olmert ousted on "corruption" charges.

Ironic, the two people closest to finding peace are the two who's terms end prematurely?

His failed attempt to stop the Hezbollah murderers by invading their territory combined with charges of corruption made him ineffective as a leader.

Well, the good news is Olmert is not the president, Shimon Peres is.

The reason he is stepping down is that what is done in the US House and Senate is against the Law in Israel. You cannot accept money from foreign business men.  

I hope none of our elected officials reads this, I hate to be responsible for a wave of resignations. What would happen to our country? Who would be left to mess it up, spend ourselves into bankruptcy, especially now that big spender Bush is on his last breath.

He is not the President of Israel, he is the Prime Minister. He, and some others, are being investigated for corruption for something that occurred before he was Prime Minister.

Several reasons:

He is a failure

He lost the war against Hizbollah

He is a crook and is under investigation

He stockpiled more nukes while clamoring for Iran to give up nukes

He tried to buy off more US congressmen
