I'm not a big tennis fan, but when I hear about matches, it always seems like Nadal beats Federer almost every time. Why is Nadal 2nd place then and Federer first?

  1. because he is not consistent enough to make it to number one.. and because he is not a strong enoug hardcourt player... had his hardcourt record have been better, or gone up.. he would do better

  2. Federer beats Nadal too, but the clay court season is lumped together in the middle of the year all at once, (basically, with a few straggle clay matches other times), so that's probably why  it seems like that.  Federer is the Ruler of Tennis. The most artistic strategically sound player ever, and when he wins the French, people can finally say he's the greatest of all times. I hope with all my might that he will beat Nadal on clay at the French open. That ought to shut up the nay sayers.

  3. because federer won more grand slams than nadal..

  4. Because, in the past three years federe has won 3 of 4 of the gram slams and Nadal only has won one each year. Also, federer wins bigger events like end of yr. tournament grandslams, masters and such while nadal wins a lot but really small tournaments w. exception of french rome hamburg and such.

  5. Becaue of the various types of surface during various periods of the year, you will have players playing better in one or more surfaces. It is now the clay season, where Nadal is known as the King of Clay, his game is almost unbeatable. Roger you can say is the second best on clay, he has lost to Nadal almost every match. On the other surfaces, it is almost the reverse. Also, Federer has amassed quite a lead in points over Nadal, so it is hard for Nadal to close that gap even in the clay season, because Federer is the second best on that surface, and best on grass, hard and carpet.

  6. well if rafa was better at both grass and hard court surfaces, he would most likely be in the number one spot. Rafa has his clay court, while federer has his grass. But overall federer is way better at the hardcourt surface, than Rafa. So they can both win on their specific court, and the wins come down to hardcourt games, then of course Federer is going to win

  7. whenever he reaches 1 place he would Cherish it lot more

  8. Raf is a gifted and brilliant tennis player who just has the bad luck to be around when an astonishing "freak" of a tennis player named roger FEDERER is as well.

NADAL is a warrior with immense physicality and little subtlety, plays one way extremely well. Weather the storm and he appears not to know how to change a losing game,  whereas roger can weave different games to bamboozle his opponents.

To use a boxing analogy NADAL is like a joe FRAZIER who was a great agressive fighter but nearly always a second fiddle to the superb artistry of muhammed ALI.

Perhaps that's the fundamental difference: pure bombastic power tamed by the extra dimension of brilliant artistry.

  9. nadal hasn't come close to winning any grand slam titles other than the french open, i don't think he deserves to be in  2nd place after federer.

i m not a federer fan but, no argument, he is more consistent on grass courts and hard courts.

  10. Federer is the number 1 tennis player in the world.

Nadal is number 2 in the world.

    Maybe that's why.

  11. matches are played on basically three different surfaces    and a player's game is usually suited better to one than to another. Nadal is almost unbeatable on clay courts    but Federer tops him on grass courts (where Nadal is one of the best but not THE best) and really outclasses him on the hard courts. When it all adds up,Fed is No1 and Nadal No2. Also the points added up are all the points won over a year playing against many other players, not just against each other.

  12. Because over a rolling 52 week-period over the past 3 years, he hasn't held enough ranking points to be #1, yet has had more than enough (until recently) to be well ahead of #3.

  13. nadal keeps defending his points so no progress in points n hence in rankings
