It is my favorite musical, my favorite movie.

I am only 13 so I was hoping that when I was older and had the money I could go see it on broadway. Recently I heard that on september 7th Rent will have it's "final performance"!!!

Does anyone know why such a popular musical is shutting down?

  1. basic answer- no money. The production isn't making money anymore, so it makes no point to keep it open. It's had a healthy run[12 years!], so it's just time. If you want to catch the last performance, Carmike Cinema theatres will be showing the show[filmed live] on September 24-27, 2008. Check here for more details:

  2. You could have discovered the vaild answers in just a question search, no offense.

Ticket sales have been lagging, though it will continue in a tour sense, and on DVD at some point.

Disney didn't kill RENT, they merely booked the theater

  3. It's not that popular anymore. It's been running for ten years and it's not selling tickets. Shows close when they're not making money, period. It is touring now and will continue to tour, so you'll be able to see it when it comes to your area.
