  1. In my limited knowledge of Mormonism, I sense that Mormons have very fine values. Their self-discipline would put many so-called Christians to shame.

Is Mormonism Christian? This may seem like a puzzling question to many Mormons as well as to some Christians. Mormons will note that they include the Bible among the four books which they recognize as Scripture, and that belief in Jesus Christ is central to their faith, as evidenced by their official name, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Some basic doctrines are not compatible with the Christian doctrine from the Bible.

    1) the Mormon Church teaches that Jesus Christ is our elder brother who progressed to godhood, having first been procreated as a spirit child by Heavenly Father and a heavenly mother; He was later conceived physically through intercourse between Heavenly Father and the virgin Mary

    2) the Mormon Church teaches that Father, Son, and Holy Ghost are three separate Gods

    3) the Mormon Church teaches that Adam’s sin was "a necessary step in the plan of life and a great blessing to all of us

    4) the Mormon Church teaches that eternal life in the presence of God (which it terms "exaltation in the celestial kingdom") must be earned through obedience to all the commands of the Mormon Church, including exclusive Mormon temple rituals

    5) the Mormon Church teaches that the purpose of the atonement was to bring resurrection and immortality to all people, regardless of whether they receive Christ by faith. Christ’s atonement is only a partial basis for worthiness and eternal life, which also requires obedience to all the commands of the Mormon church, including exclusive Mormon temple rituals

    6) the Mormon Church teaches that the Bible has been corrupted, is missing many "plain and precious parts" and does not contain the fullness of the Gospel

    7) the Mormon Church teaches that there was a great and total apostasy of the Church as established by Jesus Christ

If the Mormon Church believes it is the only true Christian Church, it should not attempt to publicly present itself as a part of a broader Christian community. Instead it should tell the world openly that those who claim to be orthodox Christians are not really Christians at all, and that the Mormon Church is the only true Christian Church. This in fact is what it teaches privately, but not publicly.

  2. Mormons believe that they are Christians, and in truth, many are.

I know several Mormons who actually believe that Christ is their savior and that they are saved by grace, and not through works.

It seems that many Mormons do not understand the works based salvation of the Mormon church, and the more in depth beliefs in the church are foreign to about 1/2 of the Mormons I have met and talked about faith with.

  3. This is a silly question.  What is your religious denomination?  Why are you what you are?  What do you have against other beliefs?

Mitt Romney was raised as a member of the LDS church.  He grew up in those beliefs and discovered for himself that the teachings are correct and satisfy his spiritual needs.  That could be said for most LDS members.  As for our values, they are the same as any other Christian.  We believe in faith, hope and charity.  We believe in loving our God and our fellow man.  We believe in the gifts of the Holy Ghost.  We believe in chastity and virtue and marriage as an eternal ordinance.  We believe in partaking of the Sacrament as a reminder of the sacrifice of the Savior for our salvation.

I ask that you read our scriptures and find out for yourself that we espouse Christian values as taught from the beginning.

  4. I wasnt aware he was against any Christian values....In fact, I know he is in line with a lot of them (like being against abortion and pro-traditional families). Check out his website (http://www.mittromney.com/)

the source of information must always be considered. If you want to know what someone thinks, or stands for, let them tell you, and let their actions tell you!!

Why do you say he isnt?

*bwlobo and all others NOT mormon but stating what we believe need to go to www.mormons.org or www.lds.org to get their information. There are many who would lie and twist our faith to deceive you. If you want to know what ANY group believes, ask THEM not someone who hates them, or someone who just doesnt understand.

  5. Mormons are Christain...

  6. Mormons ARE Christians. There are many different denominations in the Christian religion. MANY.

  7. Mormons ARE Christians.

Maybe you should do a little research before making INCORRECT statements

  8. Exactly WHAT "christian value" is he against??  I can't think of anything "Christlike"that he would be against because he is LDS.

  9. You'll have to ask Mitt why he chose mormonism, aside from it being his "family religion."

He doesn't have anything against Christian values, but the Christian faith.  One of the bases of mormonism is that mormonism is the true faith and all the other Christian denominations are not the true faith... that they got sort of "lost" along the way, and veered away from the truth.

The basic tenets of Christianity includes the doctrine of Trinitarianism, which is not part of mormonism. There are many differences between the two, and the vast majority of Christian denominations do not consider mormonism to be "another Christian denomination" like the Baptists or Lutherans, are.

But the mormon church desires to become a "legitimate" faith, and is purposely promoting the idea that mormonism is just another Christian denomination.  If this were accepted, then their religion would gain the legitimacy they so desperately desire.

So, mormons want to call themselves Christians, but Christians refuse to accept them as a Christian denomination.

But that does not mean that both do not share certain common values, like family, hard work, ethical behavior, honesty, etc.

I'm sure Romney has nothing against Christian values, only that the doctrines differ.

Alright... I see all your thumbs DOWN heading my way... but this is the answer I am providing.... know you can like it or lump it as you wish.

    Have a right-wing day.

  10. I don't know,........... but I hope they put him on the ticket because the narrow minded base  the republican party is so proud of will stay home for sure.

Their daily shot of Propaganda from FAUX news won’t even convince them to come out to vote  if “Mittens” is on the ticket.

  11. Giuliani was a Catholic.  Some folks share a different opinion about personal beliefs.  I did not know Mitt was denigrating others for their beliefs.  What Christian "VALUES" was Mitt against?  I thought Mitt was pro family/pro life.  Did I miss something???

  12. What? Are you just trying to get hits in on random targets just incase McCain selects them as his VP?

  13. What a dumb question.

Mormons hold Christan values and then some.  It's Christians who view Mormons as going beyond the mark.

  14. 1. He's Mormon cause he wants to be.

    2. Mormons are Christians.

    3. Romney and most Mormons have more Christian values than many of the so-called Christians who seem to have a real problem with Mormons.

I mean, why don't they just come out and say it, be honest.

"We can't let these people think it's OK to spawn!"

  15. the Mormon's are a cult and Romney's been brainwashed

  16. He hasn't been asked to be V.P. yet, so you can hold off on your attacks until you find out who is.  I know your chomping at the bit.

  17. WHY are you a "Christan"???  What do you have against Mormon's views!!!

MOST sheeple are born into the religion they profess.

  18. Morman values are christian values.  It varies in the interpretation of the scriptures.

  19. Romney does not have anything at all against Christian values.  As a Mormon, he worships Jesus Christ as his savior and redeemer. As a Mormon, he believes that because of Jesus Christ's atonement, we can all gain eternal life.

What you might ask is, do you yourself really know what Mormons believe, or do you listen to hearsay?

You might ask a Mormon what they believe.   You can go here to find out:

  20. Here is a sample of Mormon Values from the Proclamation on the Family.  Is anything here against Christian values?

We declare the means by which mortal life is created to be divinely appointed. We affirm the sanctity of life and of its importance in God's eternal plan.

Husband and wife have a solemn responsibility to love and care for each other and for their children. Parents have a sacred duty to rear their children in love and righteousness, to provide for their physical and spiritual needs, to teach them to love and serve one another, to observe the commandments of God and to be law-abiding citizens wherever they live. Husbands and wives—mothers and fathers—will be held accountable before God for the discharge of these obligations.

The family is ordained of God. Marriage between man and woman is essential to His eternal plan. Children are entitled to birth within the bonds of matrimony, and to be reared by a father and a mother who honor marital vows with complete fidelity. Happiness in family life is most likely to be achieved when founded upon the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ. Successful marriages and families are established and maintained on principles of faith, prayer, repentance, forgiveness, respect, love, compassion, work, and wholesome recreational activities.

We warn that individuals who violate covenants of chastity, who abuse spouse or offspring, or who fail to fulfill family responsibilities will one day stand accountable before God. Further, we warn that the disintegration of the family will bring upon individuals, communities, and nations the calamities foretold by ancient and modern prophets.

We call upon responsible citizens and officers of government everywhere to promote those measures designed to maintain and strengthen the family as the fundamental unit of society.
