Look, I don't want to start a big controversy or any kind of spitting fit. I just don't quite get why the US can invade Iraq on what appears to be false pretenses and then they 'warn' Russia about invading Georgia. What gives? Why is one worse than the other?

  1. Because USA owns the world. Or they think they do. It's OK for them to do whatever they want to do, but not so if other people do it. It's OK to pollute the world (don't sign Kyoto agreement), its OK to test ballistic nucular(? per bush) missles (non-nuclear proliferation agreement) etc...

And it's OK to protect american interest including occupation of other countries. That show who is the boss.

  2. it would be like Russia invading Xin Jiang province and into China proper b/c Xin Jiang province want their independence

it is a totally different situation, Georgia was simply trying to regain control of an out of control province

  3. I thought that bush looked pretty simple minded when he told the Russians that they couldn't do what he had recently done.

but then he's the decider, and can decide what's good for everyone right?

  4. We didn't "invade" because we wanted to annex Iraq but because they had WMDs. We had evidence of such from the way Hussein used them on his own people. Further, the US just removed 550 metric tons of concentrated natural uranium used to for higher-grade nuclear enrichment from Iraq. We also rid the Iraqis from a tyrannical leader who populated mass graves with his own people and who's children used to torture and kill for fun on a Saturday night. Additionally, he allowed any terrorist organization to train in Iraq, including Al Qaida, the group responsible for committing acts of war against the United States both in the attack on the USS Cole and murder of our sailors and 9/11. Hussein also paid suicide bombers to go into Israel to blow themselves, and innocents, up.

Russia, on the other hand, invaded Georgia under the guise of protecting the Russian citizens who lived in the two disputed areas of Georgia much like Hitler annexed the Sudetenland and Austria under the guise of protecting German citizens there. Hitler, like Putin, not only didn't move back but went forward in his occupation.

Russia has broken two cease fire agreements much like Hitler broke his agreement with Chamberlain not to invade Poland, which he did exactly a year to the date later after the agreement was signed.

You don't approve of the war in Iraq but yet you want us not to "warn" Russia but to send troops to fight against them? How does that make sense?

  5. I promise you, the only thing us mere intellgent mortals can do is sit back, cry, pray (if your into that), eat (some people are weird), and sleep (Me :]), and just learn as much as you can about both sides, then, and only then, pass jugment on only to those who you know agree with you.

But by the way, their warning Russia in a bad way, like, "if you don't wanna fight the UN, get out", their not doing this "You probably shouldn't do that, look where it got us".

  6. I guess cuz Georgia is a democratic nation and Iraq wasn't. I don't know.

  7. Iraq was being ruled by a terrible dictator, the real reason for the invasion of Georgia is that Putin wants to reassemble the former USSR.  A better comparison would be if the British decided to invade America to regain control of the colonies it once controlled.  Regardless of what anyone thinks of the invasion of Iraq it can't be denied that the world is better off without Saddam, there was nothing good about him and since America is blamed for putting him into power perhaps the invasion was a means of correcting that mistake.
