  1. Read the news and you will get half the story.  Read a Russian paper and you'll get the other half.

  2. Putin's power in Russia is based on anger at perceived injustices by the west after the Soviet Union imploded.  It is EXTREMELY similar to n**i Germany where Germans were upset that they were no longer being treated with the respect that a great power expected (in both cases, both were no longer a great power).  He pushes both nationalism and socialism as did the n***s.  Like Hitler, he has blustered enough and has produced positive domestic results enough that he is extremely popular there.  One of his main goals from the beginning has been to restore Russian prestige and invading former colonies like Georgia wins him political power at home.  His national socialists have poisoned western leading politicians such as the now President of the Ukraine.  Georgia has done several things that have irritated Russia.  They have US military personal there training the Georgian army which is supplied with US equipment, Georgia has been trying to join NATO, and Georgia sent 2000 troops to Iraq.  Apparently, Russia laid a very good trap for the Georgians so an invasion would not be heavily condemned by the west.  Ossetian terrorists were encouraged to attack Georgia and even though it is likely that The Georgian President knew a trap was laid, he could not allow these attacks and stay President for long so Georgia did exactly what Russia wanted and attacked the rebels of the break away section of Georgia.  It is notable that three weeks ago Russia started a cyber attack on Georgia and the Russian army was completely mobilized and ready to act on a moments notice (generally Russia keeps its tanks in storage except for short "gaming" exercises fro time to time).  The extremely fast response time indicates very strongly that this was a pre-planned attack.

The US IS helping and well should - anytime one ignores an ally in need, other allies start deserting for obvious reasons.  Military and humanitarian supplies have been sent on USAF cargo planes (C-17s) and Russia can do nothing to stop this unless it wants something it is very poorly prepared for - WW III.  In addition, the west runs on oil and other countries once part of the Russian/Soviet empire pipe their oil through Georgia to Turkey.  This is a major strategic consideration that absolutely cannot be ignored.  Russia has already used its gas to blackmail other countries (1/3 of Europe's gas comes from Russia).

Bottom line:  Russia attacked Georgia to please her people and to attempt to restore lost national power under the premise of stopping Georgian troops from committing "genocide" on Ossetians.

  3. To gain land back that was lost in the past. As far as I know the US has canceled upcoming things with Russia.

  4. they want their country back.

  5. Russia is fighting to protect the people of Ossetia, who are mostly Russian citizens.

The US is only helping Georgia by flying in 2,000 soldiers.

  6. I've read, Georgia first started attacking South Ossetia last week. Then after a few days, Russia came in to South Ossetia to chase Georgian troops away. Then Russia actually went into Georgia and was fighting there...... US is trying to get Russia out of Georgia as it is an independent country..... I think, they are fighting over South Ossetia - to gain that region to whoever, as right now it is (was) autonomous district.

  7. Cos it's closer to Iran.

    Think about it !!

  8. aggressiveness. the us is getting involved

  9. Maybe because there is a big oil / gas pipeline that runs through Gerogia????

  10. Russia attacked Georgia because Georgia is a free democratic country. Free media, elections, etc. Russia wants to reunite all the breakaway provinces that used to part of the olr USSR. The want to once again be a super power.

The US is nit helping Russia. In case you all missed it today, the US has been given an ultimatun from Russia. We were told to choose bebtween Russia or Georgia. We chose Georgia. Wake up people! This is the beginning of possibly WW3.
