  1. i heard that south ossedia has a large number of russian citizens and they are going to protect the civilian population or something.i don't really know.

  2. Cause Russia wants to revive the soviet union and regain control over everything they lost after the cold war. Georgia is only the beginning!! Watch out free world, this is exactly what hitler did. The big bad russians must be stopped!

  3. that would be like America invading Tibet or Taiwan...they want independance from China should we be invading them? Russia is out of line I hope that NATO and the EU put them in their place and make a stand in Georgia....

  4. South Ossetians typically view themselves more as Russians than they do Georgians. They also use Russian currency, etc. There has been a separatist movement for some time now that has been trying to break away from Georgia, which Georgia resisted.

I suppose the fact that they are close to being Russians is used as a justification by the Russians to support them. Deeper down I believe that they simply support the South Ossetians to be a thorn in Georgia's side.

But Russia hates Georgia, and the latter's recent effort to get into NATO has led to a lot of concern in Russia.

There is also the issue of an oil pipeline bypassing Russia to go through Georgia instead that I have seen a lot of people mention, although I haven't read it myself.

Basically, I'd say that the South Ossetians are just the means for the Russians to strike at the Georgians and try to subdue them.

  5. Very very simple answer for you.

    RUSSIA HATES GEORGIA.

Remember the saying, "The enemy of my enemy is my friend."

  6. Because they FAVOR them MORE!! Duhhhh!

  7. Theres a few reasons. One is the huge oil pipeline in the region. Russia has been so poor for so long they need it. Georgia is also a staunch American ally.

America is also trying to move into the region not only in the middle east, which is not a far shot from Russia. Not only the middle east but we have CIA / detainee camps all over Eastern Europe, the former soviet union, where they're torturing prisoners. If those countries allow that, they'll allow US forces to come through to get into Russia.

America is also attempted to build a missile system in Eastern Europe which Russia contends to be a serious threat to their national safety. Condy Rice insists its for "defense only" but America wouldn't allow Russia, China, Venezuela, N. Korea, Iran or anyone else to build missile systems in Mexico, Canada, Cuba (missile crisis anyone?)

This isn't just Russia. The cold war never really ended. We've had CIA, Military forces, and god knows what else in Russia since day one and it never stopped. I'm not agreeing with Russia, but I'm also not proclaiming the US' innocence.
