Why is Russian Police still called militia?

When Communism fell in Poland, they changed from militia to Police. Why didn't they do that in russia?

  1. Why change it and be like everyone else. The name is doing fine and everyone's so used to it.


  2. It is just russian language. In english it is police, in russian it is miliciya. Just a language, that's it.

  3. because they have far more power than cops, they can arrest you without a reason

  4. Because the word "militia" means "military" and "police" is derivated from "policy". what's more suitable?

  6. It just stuck like that. And since the cars and everything still says militia, they do not want to change the name everywhere. Too much hassle and money.
