  1. The name Soho originally came from the hunting cry of the huntsmen who went out with the King from Whitehall to hunt for deer etc in St. James's Park and Green Park and the then country beyond some several hundred years ago.

The huntsmans cry was 'soho' when a deer was seen up ahead.  The hunt would then follow the cry to the kill.

  2. SOHO basically was started in England. It is South Hampton, England.

Just got shortened to SO (meaning south) HO (meaning Hampton). Other places adopted SOHO for their own place. I believe their is a SOHO in New York somewhere also.

  3. none the wife gets there first ! typical !

  4. I've heard it dates back to Henry viii. So Ho was a hunting cry similar to Tally Ho meaning someone had sighted the animal and was giving chase. Soho today was formally an area for hunting.

  5. It means south and then the name

  6. It was a vilage on the banks of the Soho river. The river now flows under the streets

The river got it's name because it flowed through royal hunting grounds, and 'Soho' is a call to the hounds!

  7. If you mean the artsy part of town on Manhatten, it is a blend of the words "SOuth of HOuston Street"
