Why is Somerset County not mentioned with 9/11??

Question

I live in Somerset County, for those of you who dont know its the county where flight 93 crashed on September 11, 2001 (Also site of Quecreek Mine disaster...fyi...just useless info). However Somerset County is never metioned along with 9/11!!! We are always referred to as "Pittsburgh's Neighbor"...NO, we are NOT Pittsburgh's neighbor! Pitt is 3 hours away! The only thing we have in common is the PA Turn Pike and we are on the same side of the state. NOTHING else! Why is our county fogotten, are we that small and insignificant?? I know it was just a fluke that it happened here, but even when you type it in a search engine nothing comes up but local records. At least for the sake of history cant we remember that it happened here?

It's because the NYC-based media believe if someone goes west of the mall in Paramus, New Jersey they fall off the edge of the earth. I live in a suburb of Las Vegas. Their coverage of news in my area is even worse. Simply put, those folks have no knowledge of geography. Nevada had an earthquake some weeks ago in a town called Wells. A lot of the NYC-based media tried to get updates from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. Wells is over 400 miles from Las Vegas!

For what it is worth, within two months of the crash of Flight #93, the Air Force put the following "nose art" on some of their bombers:

"Let's roll".

I'm not sure why they overlook you.  When I think of Somerset  and important events, I think of the Quecreek Mine rescue and the Flight 93 crash.  I guess the media assumes Pittsburgh isn't that terribly significant, and anything outside of it must be some backwards place that isn't that terriblly important.  It appears only the people from Southwestern PA make the distinction.  No love for the region I guess. sigh

Blame the media. They focus on the most dramatic footage and body count. There was nothing left of flight 93 to show over and over and over on TV News.

Why not email the networks and ask them your question? Ask them why there has been no followup with the victim's families and those living near the crash site. Then, report back here about their responses. It will be interesting reading.

For the record: I was a TV News anchorman and News Director for a C.B.S. affiliate until 1982.

THERE COULD BE ALOT OF ANSWERES GIVEN TO THAT QUESTION, BUT THE HONEST TRUTH OF THE MATTER IS, IT JUST DOESN'T CARRY ANY POLITICAL VALUE FOR ANYONE. IT'S NOT ABOUT THE PRECIOUS LIVES LOST ON THAT PLANE,BUT WHO CAN BEST BENEFIT POLITICALLY.
