Why is Suicide illegal?

If someone doesn't want to live anymore, why not let them end their life. It only hurts them.

I know you'll say it hurts those that they are close to, but that pain only lasts a short a time. Death is eternal.

Because people are selfish. I do not care how much any of my friends would hurt they need to live for my happyness I am obsessive and if they die they are taking me with them because I can get sad to the point where I can not function any more! As for other people some probably think it is morally wrong, because people who commit suicide can not get into "heaven".... misery loves company oh also the goverment cannot collect taxes from dead people
