Question:

Why is Tennis and Soccer so HUGE everywhere else, but America?

It's kinda like the government wants to keep us from experiencing other cultures "good" sides for use in war propaganda, I mean Tennis and soccer could easily be made into a huge acceptable sport in America if the media cared enough. I don't know, I like football too, but soccer and tennis are older than most, and we don't seem to recognize that like most countries. I just think if we treated these 2 sports with as much respect as other countries then it would bring us all closer together. I hope I don't sound too crazy, I just notice that most sports channels spend 90% of their time on football/baseball/basketball while tennis mathces are going on all year round and are only aired when round of 16 happens in a grand slam.

  1. Because Americans basically like quantitative sports. It's not entertaining to watch people trying to score in 2 X45 minutes, sometimes with no result.  For tennis I think most American are not fit enough to play.

  2. I think it's because the America media wants to only go big on Sports that America is good at. Maybe Americans don't want to be reminded that they aren't the best at everything.

  3. I thought I was gonna offend you with my answer but I don't think it will after reading ur comments on America!!

I think you guys like to focus on sports you can win because nobody else plays them... baseball, softball, gridiron.. god knows what else I don't live there. was there more focus on tennis in the USA back in the Sampras Agassi days by any chance? As for football (soccer), its the same I guess, can't really compete so try to pretend it isn't the biggest and best team sport in the world.

If it makes you feel any better my country do the same... all the headlines concern rugby because we are good at it, but if a countryman does well in a sport it'll get a huge headline- from cycling to tennis (we've all of a sudden got a top 50 player and the whole of New Zealand cares). But its really pathetic, its like if we put more money into sports like football and tennis then perhaps we would be better at them and they would gain popularity! Honstly, most kiwis don't even know who Federer is, let alone Djokovic!! But at the moment all NZ cares about is rugby.... so yeah, I don't think we are that far apart really.

  4. U know keypoint ...i disagree with you...sports like ping pong

(chaina)/table tennis, honey(india), kabbdi(banladesh), we would thke 20's of years to compete(US doesnt know u know we can't ...whatever u said)

But when standrkm...why doesn't the govt our media(our source of information) let us show these games like soccer and tennis which are older than most, and we don't

seem to recognize that like most countries.

CANT in our population of more than a million have the resourcesand infrastructure  and capital to compete in games like in an international level(grand slams/FIFA's)...being pessmistict it should take us more than

700 days to do so...very interesting question...I just the best ever grand slam title ever played!

i'm with youstandrkm...u should take interest(atlleast the Govt)

  5. I think the reason soccer isn't more popular is because there isn't a lot of scoring. You can watch a whole game and only see one goal. Even though I think soccer is way more interesting than baseball. I think the problem with tennis is that it's not something everybody can play. A lot of people probably associate tennis with wealthy people. Also, it's hard to pick someone to root for you don't have a city or something you just have to choose a person.

I don't think it makes a difference if our national soccer team is really good. I do think it makes a difference that there aren't  lot of great American tennis players right now.

I watched Wimbledon this year, but if I saw a match on any other time I probably wouldn't watch unless I recognized a name.

  6. i agree with Keypoint. thats all i gotta say. btw good question

  7. I Totally Agree!!! Both are amazing sports that are excepted around the world besides america.. I also think it would bring us together.. America focuses so much more on celebs and and looking good than the talent thats out there! Personally I am so tired of Football, baseball, and basketball 24/7.. Its time for Tennis in America!!

  8. Well It's probably because other sports like Football and nascar are shoved down Americans throats all year.
