  1. ireland partition because northern ireland is part of the UK and and southern ireland isnt. therefore its important because they are part of the country. also the fighting when on for a long time so its a tender subject. it could effect present day views about the stability of the country and whether it would be safe to visit. it also enforces the current religious warfare within the UK

  2. Too big and complex a question for here. Whatever answer you give will probably cause resentment somewhere, so donteven try.

  3. Ireland was partitioned in 1921 after years of civil unrest and rebellion occured.  This split the country into the South( 26  counties that are nationalist) and the North ( 6 counties, roughly 2 nationalist 4 unionist).

Its important today because until very recently people were constantly shot, killed and terrified by violence in the North.

Up to 85% of paramilitary Loyalist's victims were actually civilains not IRA, causing mass hatred of unionism and Orangemen and all things British.

Republicans bombed England, causing tens if not hundreds of millions of pounds of damage, had plans to kill members of the royal family and tried to kill the Prime minister Margaret Thatcher.

They did this because they believed the Partition of Ireland stopped short of creating a united Ireland and meant to create this by violence.

As for present day views it affects peace negotiations all over the world, people from all over the world from the middle East to South America have come to see how people who hated each other so much can learn to co-exist and create a di-volved government.

  4. Well, the subject is touchy. The vast majority of the Northern Irish population wish to remain within union, but most of the Republic of Ireland want N.I. "back". Oddly enough, a huge majority of BRitish people think they should have it.

    It's a very precarious situation.

  5. Because there are people in Northern Ireland who want Northern Ireland to be United with with the Republic of Ireland which would therefore end partition. The two main political parties in Northern Ireland are the DUP who want to maintain partition and Sinn Fein who want to end it. This is why there is a lot of distrust between the two which has led to politically instability at times

  6. My father came here from Ireland. And present day views are the same as 100s of years ago. Like the song goes give Ireland back to the Irish. Don't  make them take it away.
