Why is UNICEF Not Interested IN Protecting Children by adopting political policies such as sanctions?

That is quite a thing to say. Is it the UN mission and manifest to stand by as passive observer of and sing "oh thats terrible, oh thats terrible" Ethos or get its *** in gear and put in a host of political pressures (e.g.Enomic Sanctions) against countries that persist in Child Trafficking (e.g. Turkey, UAE) I love seeing the people hold hands and sing Kumbaya - ohh - kymbayaaa - we shall - overcome, but that isnt exactly the UN manifest destiny and purpose, is it? No. Of course not. If the UN was interested in stopping child abuses (some of its own members throughout its history have been accused of this) it would get off its hands and start putting in some pressures. It really is quite gung-ho about economic sanctions here and there when it wants to be, but it is so LetsSingKumbayaHowUnfortunateAndContinue...

The likes of Angelina Jolie have it way 2 wrong. UNICEF. Why is it not doing more than sitting on its hands and whinning? So poetic and so useless.

  1. UN agencies do not have the power to impose such sanctions. What they do is to help countries develop and implement programs in line with agreements in UN treaties such as the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). Agencies such as UNICEF also monitor countries' compliance to the UNCRC and helps governments develop country reports for submission to the Committee on the Rights of the Child. The Committee reviews the country reports and issues concluding observations to the reporting government. It also issues "general comments" or "general recommendations" as needed to provide governments with a working interpretation of the rights embodied in a certain treaty.

Violations of children's rights (e.g., continued existence of child trafficking in the country) are noted by the Committee in its concluding observations and comments/recommendations. Governments are then expected to respond to these observations or comments by instituting policies and programs that would address the rights-violation. UNICEF helps governments in doing this.

Some committees have the mandate to examine individual complaints (made by a citizen or a group) of human rights-violations but I don't think the Committee on Children's Rights has such mandate.

  2. Well it is way too easy to talk about the United Nations living in a fantasy world. We all know that.

One of the biggest barriers to the adequate functioning of the child protection system is lack of sufficient numbers of skilled social workers at the directorates of child protection and municipalities. This shortage reflects in part a nationwide shortage of trained social workers and psychologists, and low salaries and heavy workloads at directorates of child protection. Recent study on child protection system found that protection services were “concentrated in large urban areas, while small localities throughout the county are still uncovered,” and that staff at directorates of child protection were “totally out of their league” in providing required services.

UNICEF can only make economic support. Legal mesures are not possible. Each country has his own legislations.

  3. The basic goal of the UN is to establish a socialistic one world government under any guise possible.

  4. The UN itself cannot impose sanctions since

    1. it is not a country

    2. it can't force member countries to impose sanctions.

The only way the UN can take action is

    1. Encourage countries to take action

    2. make treaties, protocols, resolutions, etc.

  5. according to one of it's rules it is not legal  to deny people food. they would be the ones who suffer not traffickers or whoever. there were sanctions placed on Iraq. there was  talk about placing them on Iran. thing is first they are put on then the UN  goes in and helps those  who have them placed on them.  the positions the UN takes are contradictory. do newspapers have it right or information recorded wrong. truth unless North Korea is attacked nothing will happen .  the UN will likely join in and talk about terrible events intervention necessary. but doesn't give a rat's *** about  other places.besides wars bolster arms trade so whether it is the UN or other countries fighting money is to be made. maybe even fake genocides as well as real ones. who can tell propaganda from truth nowadays. course without a concerted attempt to disprove the inherent belief people have in their superiority nothing can be done.have to factually prove humans are not superior to eachother or other lifeforms just cog in the planet's machinery. everyone needs to let go of arrogance even in UN. the idea of human superiority at least among some has never been relinquished.

  6. The United Nations is not being followed by most countries.  Thus, they cannot force or give sanctions to violating member countries particularly the superpowers.
