Why is US customs holding my passport that was sent from my embassy in djibuti?

Good question. Maybe there's something in your passport that is interesting. I'm pretty sure if there were nothing wrong, your passport would have just gone straight through.

You said, "... from my embassy in Djibuti." You didn't say that your passport was coming from the passport office in Djibuti.  So if you're not from Djibuti, why do you need your passport to go through an embassy?  Additional question- Don't you have an embassy here in Washington DC?  Can't they issue you a new passport? Not sure I understand the reason for your passport coming from Djibuti. Possibly neither can US Customs.
