  1. Because China and India are exempt from any type of restrictions under the Kyoto Protocol.  I don't believe that we are the biggest pollution producer.  See the article at the URL below which was published in 2006

  2. Because they are not willing to change their lifestyle to save the environment (not talking about all americans). Bush wouldn't sign the Kyoto Protocol because he was worried it would 'damage Americas economy'. They are the biggest polluters. If everyone lived like them, we would need at least 5 planets to support the human race (Europe is about 2/3)

  3. Because the treaty wants the USA to basically shut down it's economy.  It would restrict things so much that it would throw the economy into a deep recession. ( we're having enough trouble anyway without that too ).

China would not be restricted the same.  China's pollution will pass ours in five years.  The are building new coal fired electric plants all the time.

Aside from being the biggest polluter we are currently the largest economy.  We have cleaner air, cleaner rivers than most countries in the world and of all those with any type of economy.

If the treaty would restrict all countries on an "equal" basis then that would be different.

There are people in the UN and in the world ( just watch the news) that are dedicated to the reduction and destruction of the American economy.  We have a few traitors in our own government that want it too.

  4. For it is the CO2 producing country

  5. The Kyoto treatie is not even close to "fair."

Countries like the U.S.A. would have to cut back on pollution (something we are already trying to do).

Countries like China and India are completely exempt from having to control polution at all.  The economy of both China and India are growing by leaps and bounds.  With their new found wealth, their pollution has exloded.  With the titanic populations both of those countries have, they will surpase everything the U.S.A. and every other industrilaized country has ever done in just a very few short years.

China has ALREADY expanded so much they are putting out more pollution than the U.S.....and that will only continue to skyrocket.

So, the U.S.A. is supose to stiffle our economy, and cut back pollution, while China, and India grow by leaps and bounds and pump out more pollution that we ever dreamed of doing?

At China's present rate of growth, they are predicted to pump out more pollution in the next 10 years, than the U.S.A. has done in it's ENTIRE 200+ year history.

So exactly what good is Kyoto?

Oh yes, one other thing....Kyoto also requires the U.S.A. to PAY other countries, such as China and India for any pollution that the U.S. is causing....with zero penalties for China and India.

The very best thing the U.S. can do is continue to invent new green ideas, and items that actually work, and actually bennifit the environment.....then China will steal the ideas very quickly, copy them, and cut down on the amount of pollution they are creating.

P.S.  At the present rate of explosive growth, it is quiet possible the world will be out of anything approaching affordible oil (can you say $1000 a barrel?) in 30 years or so and all of this will be a mute point anyway.

  6. Not sure but did you know that the USA produces 30% less pollution per person than other countries in the world with the same standard of living.

No such thing as a free lunch.

  7. Cause of BUSH!! He cuts down trees 4 FUN!! Ick I hate Bush.....EVERYONE SHOULD!!

  8. Because their concerns are about making money ,not paying out to save the Environment

Read about ethanol production and you will understand

  9. I wish the USA would move faster to solve GW, but first we have to understand what it is and that we can fix it. With the peak of oil, humans must look to renewable energy. Electric cars, concentration solar power plants and small hydro electric power are some examples. Even if we had to pay the real price of oil, GW mitigation, health affects, cleanup we would still need to move toward ending oil imports, being energy independent.

  10. cause nobody likes tree huggers.  they're lame.
