Question:

Why is USAJobs such a terrible site? Is it deliberate?

I mean in my area, you get over 200 hits, but it turns out something like 120 of them are just false ads put up by military recruiters to get you to call them, and not real ads for jobs.

Then of the jobs that are up almost 1/4 have postings of less then a week (which from my last 3 experiences meant they were hiring from within, but were required to post by law or org. rules).

Even then some job postings don't appear to even be put in the right area. Some lazy HR person just sticks them under the state listing ont the region. So you get to enjoy having to search upwards of 4-5 places just to run across the one job that's actually in your area.

I mean this is our tax dollars at work right? If so and with a budget like they have (I'm sure at least on par with a Fortune 500 companies), why do the produce such a counter intuitive site? Why do they not fix so many issues that surely they must know about (I've been using them almos a year and a half and they've always been there)?

It's my understanding it was a bunch of democrats that created this flawed and screwed up site... and then a bunch of republicans who think it works just fine and don't bother to fix it. So who do we even complain to?

I'm starting to consider one of those paid sites that does the search for you but that really bugs me. I feel like I already paid once for it with my taxes.

  1. I noticed a while back that USAjobs was completely useless.  I have found the best job hunt site to be "Simplyhired.com".  It aggregates search results from dozens of job sites.  I sometimes find job listings on there that I don't even see at Monster and Dice.

I think sites like Monster.com lose their effectiveness as they become more and more popular.  Not only does your competition increase for job postings, but you also get hounded by annoying head hunters.

  2. If you are seriously searching a government job, you might be better served going directly to your state and city websites, and using the Career link posted on the each agency's site(s) - it is going to take longer, but the listings are more accurate, fresher and easier to navigate.

  3. I suggest that you can chat with HR managers or recruiters directly, which will enlarge you chance to get hired. I would like to recommend you a networking jobsite--jobirn.com.It is basically a job board while it has functions of social network. You can chat with HR managers or recruiters directly just via the chat box of the site. Moreover, you can conduct video interview if you like. You can even add other members to "My Contacts" list and establish your social network for career. I hope you can find yourself the ideal job. Good luck!
