I just installed Ubuntu Hardy Heron but it seems slower compared to XP.

Should I update ubuntu? Will it solve it?

  1. did you set up drivers? its not as great out-of-box as XP but once you get the drivers set up correctly its a little bit faster IMHO.

  2. That is really weird. Try updating it but did you create a linux-swap partition? It is so that linux has some extra room to move around - that can help out immensely

  3. Try updating it. Ubuntu should be updated regularly.

  4. You might try updating it and making sure all items are installed. I think that it 's slower because it has more features than XP and it uses RAM. I'm not so familiar with this OS but i know that most viruses affect Windows systems while Ubuntu systems are more secure.

  5. if u r running it from cd it will be slower

if its installed to ur hd then try switching off visual effects (compiz, beryl, etc)

other than that it should go like a rocket.

If you want it real fast use xfce instead of gnome (can be installed through synaptic)
