  1. Becaue it's a cheaper alternative to top private schools for the heaps of middle class, smart kids in California. At $25,000 per year, it's half the price of Stanford, USC and other private colleges the same kids apply to.

    Though relatiely, it's not that hard to get into. Their 22% acceptance rate is more than twice that of schools they like to compare themselves to.


  2. Because it's a renown privatized university with top of the line faculty, programs, and student body. Accepting everybody who's anybody would just make them another university.


  3. It's a good school, so it's very competitive, lots of people want to get in

  4. Everyone wants to go there & it's ranked the number one public university in the nation.

  5. Because it's flooded every year with applications and there are just so many spots available.

  6. 1) UC Berkeley is the # 1 public university in the nation.

    2) Close to 50,000 freshman applicants competed for 10,000 spaces (with an expected 5,000 SIR).
