Why is Venice called the City of Light?

i want to know why venice is called that. venice also has some other nicknames like the city of water and the city of bridges but i get why it might be called those. im just curious thats all.

    Venice is the "serene republic" ("la serenissima)

    Paris is the City of Light

    but Venice(Venezia) is the city of Lampioni(Street Lights)

    There are some kind of External street Lights Which are unique

    Funny Fact....In my last exam in photography academy I made a urban Photoshooting about Venice and his Street Lights
